BLUESHIFT ENSEMBLE CONCERT WITH DAVE SHOUSE AT THE MEMPHIS SCOTTISH RITE TEMPLE. FRIDAY, JUNE 2, 2017, 8:00 PM.

Featuring the world premier of David Shotsberger’s piece rāg >> kwit for electric guitar and string quartet, recent solo and chamber works for amplified instruments, and cross-genre collaboration between Blueshift Ensemble and experimental sound artist Dave Shouse.

Blueshift Ensemble, a contemporary chamber group formed in 2016 based in Memphis and led by flutist Jenny Davis and cellist/composer Jonathan Kirkscey, is presenting their fifth large scale performance at the historic Memphis Scottish Rite Temple on Friday, June 2nd at 8:00 pm. The ensemble will collaborate with experimental sound artist Dave Shouse, and perform other chamber works by Frederic Rzewski, Steve Reich, Sarah Kirkland Snider, David T. Little, Thea Musgrave, and a world premier of Memphis composer David Shotsberger’s piece for electric guitar and string quartet. The program features a combination of electronic and acoustic sounds, as well as sound/light modification via Dave Shouse.

About Blueshift Ensemble: Blueshift is a Memphis based contemporary chamber music ensemble dedicated to bringing artists and audiences together through artistic collaboration. By programming both new and existing classical repertoire alongside multi-genre collaborations, Blueshift aims to connect a wider audience to today’s classical music. The ensemble draws upon Memphis’s uniquely diverse musical heritage by combining classical music with popular music genres such as rock, blues, and soul and featuring local musicians, dancers, visual artists, and composers.

Masonic Contemporary and the entire Memphis Scottish Rite building is undergoing extensive cosmetic and structural renovations, which include a new roof and interior refinishing of select walls and ceilings.

For Immediate Release - Circuitous Succession Gallery Presents: James Bockelman - represented artist lecture Location: Masonic Contemporary at Memphis Scottish Rite 825 Union Ave, Memphis, TN 38104 Date/Time: Saturday, February 6th, 1pm-2pm This lecture is free and open to the public. Image Caption: Disturbance, 2016. Oil on paper, 22" X 22" The work of James Bockelman has been represented by Lo River Arts in Beacon, New York and the Karolyn Sherwood Gallery in Des Moines, Iowa. In addition to exhibiting in numerous group shows throughout the Mid West region, Bockelman’s art was featured in one person exhibitions at the Sheldon Memorial Museum of Art in Lincoln, the Museum of Nebraska Art in Kearney, and the Kunstoffice in Berlin, Germany. Bockelman earned the Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln in 1997, and currently is a professor of art at Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska where he teaches painting and new media.
